When you replace a company car used in a system integrator’s field service, you usually get a solid test of whether the last vehicle decision was the right one. In our case the predecessor — a Tesla Model Y — went back as a leasing return after four years without a single unscheduled workshop visit. The decision for the follow-up vehicle was accordingly straightforward: another Model Y. The new car has been on the road around Neuburg an der Donau since this week, fully wrapped, licence plate ND DZ 888E. Here is the short version — why Tesla again, what tipped the balance, and how the car fits DATAZONE’s day-to-day.

Four years without a workshop visit
The real reason for the decision is the experience with the previous vehicle. Four years of daily use across Bavaria — customer visits in Ingolstadt, Augsburg, Munich, Nuremberg, longer trips to partners — and in that time not one unscheduled workshop visit. No classic combustion cost items for oil changes, timing belts, exhaust systems, spark plugs. That is what made the decision easy in the end: real operating experience beats every brochure discussion.
Value for money played a central role. In a direct comparison of current EV SUV offerings the Model Y clearly came out ahead for our use case: real-world range, charging infrastructure via the Supercharger network, operating costs, service intervals. For a mid-sized IT system integrator what counts at the end is the summed numbers across purchase, leasing rate, energy costs, workshop costs and availability — and those confirmed the decision.
That the new car has also taken a noticeable step forward in design and build quality was not a decision factor; it was a welcome bonus.
Wrap by Hamm Werbung Neuburg
The vehicle is fully wrapped — sides, rear, rear window. The work was done by Hamm Werbung in Neuburg, our long-standing partner for vehicle and building signage. The design picks up the DATAZONE brand story: white arrows as a sense of direction, a blue main body, logo on doors and tailgate, tag lines “IT Service”, “Telecommunications”, “Security”.

Company-car wrapping tends to be underrated in our segment. We see it as one of the few marketing measures where every additional minute of visibility is free once the one-off investment is made. Whoever drives around Neuburg, Ingolstadt or along the A9 motorway should think of DATAZONE the next time a “we need a new IT partner” moment comes up.
Working with Hamm Werbung has the same rhythm as before: design draft, approval, preparation, wrap application, pick-up — and a short photo stop in front of the Hamm Werbung office before the car enters regular service.
A licence plate with two back doors
ND DZ 888E — the plate was chosen deliberately and reads like a small logo:
- ND — Neuburg an der Donau. Our site. Regional roots in Bavaria.
- DZ — DATAZONE. The abbreviation fits in two letters, which is gold with company plates.
- 888 — in several Asian cultures the classic lucky number. For a system integrator whose job it is to prevent production incidents at customer sites, little luck symbols are welcome.
- E — the official German E-plate suffix for electric vehicles.
That isn’t an accident from the registration office. If you get the chance to design a licence plate that carries brand story and regional belonging, you take it.
A sustainability story with substance
The decision for e-mobility in the fleet fits a wider story we have picked up several times in recent months. On the topic of sustainable IT and the CSRD reporting obligation for SMBs we discussed late September what the CSRD cascade requires from IT departments. Scope 1 emissions from company fleets are a concrete, nameable lever — and for us that lever has been fleet reality for years, not hypothetical.
Sustainable IT service is not only a question of which servers you run in which data centre. It is also a question of how the team gets to the customer. And at DATAZONE that path runs consistently electric.
What this means for customers — in practical terms
In the upcoming service appointments in Ingolstadt, Neuburg, Augsburg, Nuremberg and Munich the Model Y will be the vehicle you see out front. A few practical consequences for our customers:
- Schedule flexibility — travel times are predictable, Supercharger timing has become reliable in practice. We have not had a single appointment that failed because of e-mobility.
- Equipment transport — Model Y boot and frunk take mini PCs, switches, smaller UPS units without issue. For bigger moves (server chassis, several TrueNAS units) we use a suitable transporter.
- Direct communication — when a technician is on site, customers remember who DATAZONE is afterwards. The vehicle is part of that; the team is the decisive part.
FAQ
Why Tesla again rather than a different EV brand?
The decision criteria were practical experience, value for money, range, charging-network density and daily usability in Bavarian IT service. The predecessor served us for four years without an unscheduled workshop visit — in practice that is the strongest argument. Alternatives such as the BMW iX3, the Audi Q4 e-tron and the Kia EV6 were considered; the Model Y came out ahead on the overall numbers.
What happened to the old Model Y?
The predecessor went back as a leasing return at the end of its term. Four years without an unscheduled workshop visit, scheduled end of the leasing phase, clean hand-back. For a company car there is not much more to say.
Does company wrap signage pay off?
For regionally active service companies, usually yes — advertising cost per reached contact, spread over typical vehicle life, is competitive with local print advertising. For companies operating supra-regionally with little field service, usually not. Field-service density is the deciding factor.
What role does e-mobility play in the DATAZONE ESG strategy?
Company fleet is one of the directly controllable Scope 1 emission sources. Data-centre electricity (Scope 2) we handle via green power contracts and, where possible, our own PV generation. The fleet decision completes the picture. We continue to build out the full ESG story — see sustainable IT and the CSRD reporting obligation.
Where can I talk to DATAZONE about sustainable IT?
For concrete projects or a conversation about virtualisation, storage, firewall, backup or managed services, reach us via the contact page. We are, among other things, IT partner for the Ingolstadt region and Neuburg an der Donau — and from now on in an even more visible vehicle.
