Wortmann Partner Day 2026: What DATAZONE Takes From TERRA and iXsystems Into the Next Season

Once a year Wortmann invites its partners to Hüllhorst — this year it was early November. For DATAZONE this partner day is the most important mandatory date of the autumn. Not because of giveaways, but because in a single day we see what our customers will be buying from 2027: servers, storage, software direction, service approach. Here is our honest recap.

What the Wortmann Partner Day Is — and Why It Matters For Us

The Wortmann Partner Day has for years been the format through which Wortmann AG prepares its German reseller and systems-house partners for the next year, content-wise. It is not a trade show and not a stage for end customers — it is a working day of product updates, roadmap sessions and vendor conversations on site in Hüllhorst, right next to the TERRA factory.

We attend regularly because our customer base in and around Neuburg, Ingolstadt and Augsburg largely runs on TERRA hardware — desktops, notebooks, workstations, servers, in some shops the entire fleet. Every product decision announced at the partner day for 2027 lands in concrete customer quotes a few months later. If you learn that second-hand, you lose time. If you hear the decisions and the reasoning first-hand, you can advise cleanly on your first January project.

For more on our fundamental stance toward Wortmann as a partner, see our article Wortmann AG — IT Made in Germany from Ostwestfalen. This article is the concrete follow-up: what stood out for us on site in 2026.

DATAZONE as a TERRA Partner: The Everyday Behind the Partner Status

For customers outside the IT industry, „partner” is a fairly abstract word. In practice it means three things for us:

  • Direct configuration. We specify TERRA servers and TERRA workstations to customer requirements, Wortmann builds in Hüllhorst, we deliver — usually within a few working days. No relabeled stock, no European consolidation with weeks of lead time.
  • In-house service. As a TERRA Service Partner we swap defective components on site or from our own warehouse — no „send it in” for customer devices, no waiting on an external technician.
  • Access to the full TERRA breadth. TERRA SERVER, TERRA PC and workstation, TERRA MOBILE, TERRA LCD, TERRA CLOUD, TERRA INDUSTRY — one manufacturer for point-of-sale, office, production and data center.

We illustrated this proximity earlier this summer in another article: We Won a TERRA Citan — Why Strong Hardware Partners Matter More Than Ever in 2026. The partner day is the content side of that partnership, the Citan is the visible side.

TERRA Server Roadmap 2027: What Is Moving on the TERRA Server Line

The core of the morning was, as always, the server roadmap. Without pre-publishing confidential specifications — the direction is clear from our side:

  • More range at the lower end. For smaller mid-market customers there will continue to be rack and tower servers with reasonable base configurations that can be ordered without a large project effort. For us that is important, because a large share of our customer base sits between 10 and 150 workplaces — nobody plans a data center there, they need one host for two or three virtual machines.
  • AI-adjacent configurations on allocation. GPU-capable systems remain a topic, but to be blunt: we only recommend GPU servers when a concrete workload sits across from them. The hyperscaler pull from 2026 — which we described in the Citan article — has not dissolved; prices and lead times remain irregular. Wortmann gave us clear reference values for realistic project planning.
  • Lifecycle transparency. EOL and successor modeling is handled openly on the partner day. Practically this means: we currently do not recommend any models that are set to end-of-life within the same year. Our principle for 2027 is simple — buy fresh, use long.

Hard benchmark numbers that we did not measure ourselves do not appear in our quotes. That is not new; the partner day confirms this stance every year: vendor numbers are reference values, not commitments for your concrete workload.

iXsystems Presence: The Second Red Thread

From our perspective the most interesting trend of the past two years: iXsystems has arrived on the Wortmann Partner Day. Not as a foreign body, but as a logical complement — server hardware from TERRA, storage operating system from iXsystems, service from one hand delivered by systems houses like us.

What came through clearly in the 2026 conversations:

  • Authorized partner, not loose procurement. We position ourselves deliberately as an authorized iXsystems partner — with certification, a direct technical line and our own standalone TrueNAS support offering for existing customers. More on how our partnership has grown is documented in Our Partnership with iXsystems.
  • TrueNAS Mini is shown broadly. The compact Mini portfolio has become a firm part of the conversations around small branch offices and edge scenarios. We use it in customer projects as a backup target or branch file server regularly.
  • M-Series with clear role allocation. On the iXsystems side the current enterprise rack models are the M30 and M40. M50 and M60 are no longer part of the current recommendation — anyone planning new today plans with the current models. For concrete project decisions we recommend our TrueNAS configurator, which encodes exactly this model logic.

TrueNAS 27, PBS Direction, Sustainability — the Big Topics for 2027

Three themes ran through the afternoon sessions like a red thread.

TrueNAS 27 — GA Early December 2026

The successor of TrueNAS 25.10 Goldeye is no longer called TrueNAS 26 as originally planned, but TrueNAS 27. Background and technical base — Linux kernel 6.18, OpenZFS 2.4 — we have covered in detail in the article TrueNAS 27 Instead of 26 — What the Rename Means.

For us as a partner this means in practice:

  • 25.10 Goldeye remains the stable production recommendation for now. Anyone running an enterprise project today goes with 25.10. Full stop. Anything else would be reckless.
  • TrueNAS 27 is evaluated after GA. GA is planned for early December 2026 — we will evaluate it in our own lab, not roll it out to customers immediately. This practice has proven itself with every major release.
  • Upgrade paths for existing customers are planned individually and no earlier than Q1 2027. We are not nervous — iXsystems provides conservative upgrade windows.

PBS Direction — Proxmox Backup Server as a Partner-Level Topic

For the first time the Proxmox Backup Server had its own session. We welcome that: PBS is no longer removable from our backup designs for Proxmox environments, and the combination of Proxmox VE, Proxmox Backup Server and TrueNAS as the target is standard across many of our customers.

What we take home:

  • The direction of the project remains stable — the developers clearly signaled that the free licensing model will not be touched.
  • The integration with TrueNAS over S3-compatible buckets is being documented better — this makes replication to a second data center or to hyperscaler backup cleaner.
  • For new projects we continue to recommend PBS plus TrueNAS, even though commercial alternatives were mentioned briefly in the session. Our principle: we only recommend what we run in production ourselves.

Sustainability — No Longer an Alibi Topic

The sustainability session was different in 2026 than in previous years: less gloss, more numbers. Wortmann now provides concrete values on transport routes, energy mix and lifecycle for its German production. iXsystems added the lifetime argument for ZFS-based storage — a storage system that stays ten years in production is the best CO2 lever an IT system can offer.

For our IT-Service customers this means in practice: long usage life, honest spare parts situation, repair instead of replacement. That is daily business for us — the partner day confirms the course.

What We Take From Hüllhorst To Neuburg

Concretely for our customers this means for 2027:

  • TERRA servers and TERRA workstations remain the default recommendation for most of our mid-market projects — supply chain security, service from Hüllhorst, long-standing partnership.
  • TrueNAS 25.10 Goldeye on current iXsystems hardware (M30, M40 or Mini models, depending on project size) remains the production storage recommendation. TrueNAS 27 enters the configurator once we have validated it in our lab.
  • Price ranges instead of fixed prices. We continue to work with price ranges and a binding quote on request, because hardware prices fluctuate — the partner day confirmed this. Binding quotes are issued on the day.
  • No vendor roulette. What we recommend we can repair. What we can repair lasts longer. What lasts longer is sustainable. That is not new, but the partner day makes the logic more visible every year.

FAQ About the Wortmann Partner Day 2026 and What It Means for Customers

What is the Wortmann Partner Day and who is invited?

The Wortmann Partner Day is an annual partner event held by Wortmann AG in Hüllhorst for authorized TERRA reseller and systems-house partners. DATAZONE attends regularly to catch roadmap, product direction and service development first-hand and translate them into customer projects in the Neuburg and Ingolstadt region.

Which TERRA servers are current in 2027 and which are no longer current?

As a general rule we only recommend TERRA server models that are fully in active distribution and service for new projects. Concrete model designations are agreed in the quote, because lifecycle and allocation situation shift continuously in the hardware business. The constant is: we only recommend what can still be repaired in three years.

Which TrueNAS models does DATAZONE currently recommend?

For enterprise rack storage the iXsystems models M30 and M40 are current. The older M50 and M60 are end-of-life and are no longer recommended by us for new projects. For branch offices, small sites or backup targets we recommend the TrueNAS Mini portfolio. The right configuration is built in our TrueNAS configurator.

When will TrueNAS 27 go into production?

TrueNAS 27 reaches GA in early December 2026. In customer environments we roll out no earlier than Q1 2027, after our own validation in the DATAZONE lab. Until then TrueNAS 25.10 Goldeye remains the stable production recommendation.

Why does DATAZONE not publish fixed EUR prices for TERRA or TrueNAS hardware?

Because component prices — hard drives, DDR5, GPUs, power supplies — fluctuate short-term. A fixed catalog price would be dishonest after a week. We provide price ranges and issue day-current, binding quotes on request.

Does DATAZONE have a direct line to iXsystems?

Yes. We are an authorized iXsystems partner with our own certified TrueNAS competence in the team and a dedicated TrueNAS support service as a standalone offering — including for existing systems that were not originally procured through us.

Summary

The Wortmann Partner Day 2026 was a good day for us: TERRA shows a stable server roadmap, iXsystems has arrived as a grown-up partner, TrueNAS 27 is becoming technically solid, PBS remains standard, sustainability is finally backed by numbers. If you are planning a server or storage procurement for 2027, now is the time to talk — Q1 lead times are planned from November, not from January.
